什么是袋鼠数学？

What is Math Kangaroo?

Math Kangaroo is the largest youth math competition in the world. In the 1980's, Peter O’Halloran, an Australian mathematician and teacher, began a popular mathematical competition in his country. In 1991, this idea was taken up in Paris, France. Very quickly, it spread throughout Europe. The competition began to be called “Kangaroo” because of its Australian origin.

Kangaroo mathematics competition is suitable for students of all levels of mathematics. It has gradually become the world's first large-scale youth international mathematics competition, held in 87 countries and regions and attended by more than 6 million students every year.

Different from the high difficulty and challenge emphasised in the traditional Mathematical Olympiad, the purpose of kangaroo mathematical competition is to experience the fun of  global maths education, stimulate children's interest and self-confidence in mathematics learning, cultivate students' mathematical thinking, train students' ability to read, understand, analyse and solve problems with interesting and vivid topics close to life.
